Bac Köprüsü – Tax Bridge

Yakın bir zamana kadar bütün araçlar, Tarsus Şehirlerarası Terminali istikametinden Tarsus’a giderken bu üç gözlü taş köprüden geçmekteydi. Tarsus’u Berdan (Cyndos) Çayının sel baskınından kurtarmak maksadıyla su yatağı Justinyen tarafından değiştirildikten sonra Bizanslılar döneminde 6. yüzyılda yaptırılmıştır. 1978 yılında restore edilmiştir. Şehire ticaret için getirilen hayvan ve kervanlar bu köprüden geçerken bir çeşit gümrük vergisi olan “bac”  ödediği için köprü tarih kayıtlarında Bac Köprüsü adıyla anılmıştır.

Until recent times, all vehicles entering Tarsus were crossing this three arch stone bridge on their way from Tarsus Intercity Terminal. The bridge had been built in the 6 th century during the Byzantine era to save Tarsus city from the flood of Berdan ( Cyndos ) river after the water bed had been changed by Justinian. The bridfe was restored in 1978. As a sort of customs duty used to have been collected for the caravan and cattle and sheep crossing by this bridge, the bridge is known as Tax Bridge in the historical records.
