Dünyanın bir çok yerinde makamı bulunan “Yedi Uyurlar” inanışının merkezi Tarsus’taki Eshab-ı Kehf Mağarasıdır. Eshab-ı Kehf mağara arkadaşları anlamına gelmektedir. Tarsus eşrafından yedi imanlı genç ve bir köpeğin birlikte sığındığı bu mağara, devrin putperest kralının zulmüne karşı direnişin timsali olmuştur. Kur’an-ı Kerim’in Kehf Suresinde geçen kıssaya göre; Yemliha, Debernüş, Kefeştatayyüş, Mekselina, Mernuş, mislina, Sazenüş ve köpekleri Kıtmir bu mağarada 309 yıl uyumuşlardır. Uyandıkları zaman Yemliha’nın ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak maksadıyla Tarsus’a gönderilmesi neticesinde hadise ortaya çıkmıştır. Mağara, Tarsus’un kuzeybatısında 14. km mesafede Dedeler köyü yakınında bulunmaktadır. Hristiyanlarca da kutsal kabul edilen mağaraya 15-20 basamaklı merdiven ile inilip çıkılmaktadır. Ayrıca yörede anlatılan bir efsaneye göre Karacaoğlan, Eshab-ı Kehf Mağarasına girmiş ve bir daha çıkmamıştır. Bu itibarla Karacaoğlan’ın gerçek mezarının nerede olduğu bilinmemektedir.

Eshab-ı Kehf means cave mates. 7 faithful young person from Tarsus and a dog were, hidden in that cave. It has been the symbol of resistance against the cruelty of pagan king of that period. According to the story of Koran’s Kehf Sura; Yemliha, Debernüş, Kefeştatayyüş, Mekselina, Mernuş, mislina, Sazenüş and their dog Kıtmir have slept in this cave for 309 years. When they woke up, they sent Yemliha to Tarsus for shopping so, the event appeared at that time. The cave is the north-west and 14 km far away from Tarsus and close the Dedeler Village. You can reach the cave that is sacred also for Christians, with 15-20 steps. .according to a legend that is told in Tarsus, Karacaoğlan has entered into Eshab-ı Kehf Cave and did not come out again. for this reason we don’t know where Karaaoğlan’s grave is exactly.
